Chiropractic Care

At Ponsonby Chiropractic, we offer trusted chiropractic care for patients of all ages and health conditions. When you receive an adjustment from Chiropractor Dr Karen Williams, you improve the health of your spine and allow for the free flow of nerve signals – the important messages that move among your body’s systems.

Chiropractic adjustments work by addressing subluxations, or misalignments. A vertebral subluxation is the result of chemical, emotional and physical interference that disrupts the messages to and from the brain.

We Have an Individualised Plan Just for You

Vertebral subluxations may cause many symptoms throughout the body, and that’s often what brings people to our practice. Symptoms can include neck and back pain, headaches and migraines, sciatica, scoliosis, hip pain, poor posture, and an immune system that doesn’t work efficiently.

During the early stages of your comprehensive care plan, we’ll work to uncover the underlying cause of your health condition or illness. We will suggest a care plan to produce the fastest results possible, while keeping you comfortable through adjustments. We will also offer suggestions for at-home exercises and other ways you can participate and move your recovery forward.

Our Adjustment Approach and Methods

The adjustments we use are based on our clinical judgment and years of experience. If you’ve been to a chiropractor before and you have a preference about how you are adjusted, let us know. We want you to relax, enjoy and fully benefit from your adjustments. The primary adjusting techniques we use include:

Diversified: A specific manual thrust is administered during the Diversified technique. The direction, speed, depth, and angle that are used is the result of years of experience, practice and a thorough understanding of spinal mechanics.

Activator Methods: The Activator Methods Adjusting Instrument is a handheld spring-loaded tool that delivers a consistent low-force, high speed thrust.

Sacro Occipital Technique (SOT): A chiropractic technique designed to help normalise the relationship between the pelvis and the head. We use wedge-shaped devices known as “blocks” to help correct your spine and properly “tune” your nervous system.

Thompson Technique: This technique is a full spine adjustment technique that uses low aptitude, high velocity, and low-force procedures while the patient is placed on a specialised table. When the chiropractor applies force on the spine, the table moves down and moves a specific part of your spine, which provides you relief from pain.

Massage may also be integrated into your appointment if it is determined necessary by the chiropractor.
